Villa Diani
Torre de la Horadada - Costa Blanca - Spain |
|
|
Pilar de la Horadada dates
back to antiquity and has been influenced by Carthaginian,
Roman & Moorish occupation. In the middle ages, it was the
site of many battles between the competing Kingdoms of
Valencia and Murcia. The famous medieval watch tower (La
Torre - The Tower) was built in 1591 by order of Philip II
of Spain in response to coastal raiding by Barbary
pirates. Where Pilar de la Horadada meets the sea, the
area is known as Torre de la Horadada.
The town with its many
beaches is a relaxing and peaceful resort popular with
both British and Spanish holiday makers. It enjoys long
hot summers and mild winters making it a firm favourite
with families, couples, golfers, cyclists and sun
worshippers alike.
Torre de la Horadada has over 4 kms of white sandy
beaches, all of which have the Blue Flag standard for
cleanliness. There are also many rocky bays and inlets
along with a large coastal nature reserve to explore.
Close to the Marina you
will find the "old square", an area full of small Bars &
Restaurants. During the summer this area, and the nearby
"new square", reflect the Spanish love of outdoor dining
and late nights.
The closest airport is Región de Murcia International
(RMU) which is a 35 minute drive, alternatively Alicante airport (ALC) is
45 minutes and Almeria airport (LEI) is 2 1/2 hours.
